The Best Interdisciplinary Research Award is one of the research awards offered by An-Najah National University. It is granted annually to members of the university’s academic staff in recognition of outstanding, high-quality research characterized by innovation and interdisciplinary integration across multiple academic fields. This initiative aligns with the university’s commitment to international ranking frameworks, particularly the Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Rankings (Interdisciplinary Research: IDR), which evaluates the quality and impact of interdisciplinary research. The award will be implemented starting in 2025.

  • Promoting a culture of Interdisciplinary Research (IDR) within the university.
  • Encouraging researchers to collaborate across different disciplines to produce pioneering and innovative research.
  • Supporting the university’s efforts to achieve international standards of excellence in scientific research.
  • Contributing to enhancing the university’s standing in global academic rankings.

The award is granted for the best research within each of the main categories listed below. Each research project is classified according to the academic discipline of the Corresponding Author. In cases where there is more than one corresponding author from different disciplines, the classification is based on the discipline of the corresponding author whose name appears first. The categories include:

• Health and Medical Sciences.

• Basic and Applied Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Agriculture, Environmental Sciences, and Veterinary Medicine.

• Social and Humanities Sciences, Economics, and Arts.

Interdisciplinary Research (IDR) Criteria

1. Multidisciplinarity: The research must demonstrate clear collaboration among authors from different academic disciplines, either within the same category or across categories.

2. Knowledge Integration: The research should reflect genuine integration of the authors’ different disciplines, demonstrating the interdisciplinary nature (IDR) of the work.

3. Compliance with International Standards: The content of the research must align with the definition of interdisciplinary research (IDR) according to the standards adopted by Times Higher Education. ISR 2025 Methodology
